FAQs

Answers before you book a survey.

The questions homeowners, landlords and businesses ask us most, grouped by service. If yours isn't here, call or email and we will answer it properly.

Solar panels

Do solar panels work well in Scotland?

Yes. Panels generate from daylight, not heat, and perform well here when the roof, orientation, shading and system design are properly assessed.

Will solar work on my home?

It depends on roof size, direction, shading, electricity usage and system design. We check suitability before recommending any system.

How much could I save?

Savings vary with system size, roof conditions, usage, tariff and battery setup. Our payback calculator gives an estimate, and a survey gives real figures for your roof.

Can solar be added before battery storage?

Yes. We can design a system to be battery-ready, so you can add storage later if that becomes the right next step.

Battery storage

Do I need a battery?

Not always. A battery can improve how much of your generation you use, but it should be based on your usage pattern, tariff and budget.

Can I add a battery to my existing solar panels?

Yes, in many cases. We check inverter compatibility, electrical setup, generation profile and usage first.

Can I install a battery without solar?

Yes. A grid-only battery can charge during cheaper tariff windows and discharge when electricity costs more, depending on your tariff.

What size battery do I need?

It depends on your daily usage, solar generation, tariff, evening demand and future plans. We size around real use rather than guesswork.

EV charging

Can I install an EV charger at home?

In many cases, yes. We assess your supply, consumer unit, cable route and parking location first.

Can an EV charger work with solar?

Yes, EV charging can often be planned alongside solar PV and battery storage, depending on your generation and equipment.

Do I need an electrical upgrade first?

Sometimes. If the existing installation needs work, we explain what is required before the charger is installed.

Electrical services

Do you carry out EICR testing?

Yes, for domestic, landlord and commercial properties, with clear findings and recommendations.

Can you upgrade my consumer unit?

Yes. We assess it and recommend suitable options where improved protection, capacity or compliance is needed.

Can you prepare electrics for solar, battery or EV charging?

Yes, where suitable, we assess and upgrade the electrical infrastructure to support them.

About EcoGrid

Are you MCS certified?

We are working towards MCS and NAPIT approval. We will only say we hold them once they are in place, and we will always tell you what that means for things like export payments.

Is there pressure after I enquire?

No. The purpose of a survey or estimate is to help you understand your options clearly, with no hard selling and no obligation to proceed.

Do you work across Scotland?

We are based in Glasgow and support homeowners, landlords and businesses across Scotland.

Do I pay VAT on solar and batteries?

Solar and battery installations at a home are currently 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. EV chargers are charged at the standard rate.
